Hi everyone:

I'm still trying to find a treatment for my ever-worsening sleep apnea (67 awakenings per hour).

The good news is that for almost four months now I have been dating a wonderful woman with whom I am very much in love.

I'm desperate to get better rest. For both of our sakes. I am reluctantly and begrudgingly re-considering CPAP as a treatment. What I would like to do is start from scratch and methodically go through each of the four or five mask styles I have while sharing the bed in her apartment. I think my chances of initial success, if any, will be greater if I have my good-vibe-exuding confidante there, in her full-size bed.

My apartment's area is less than 300 square feet (that's a medium-sized studio by Manhattan standards, mind you), and I only have room for a twin-size bed. When she sleeps over it is already a tight fit, to say the least.

One issue I have not been able to resolve if I do reattempt CPAP is how I could possibly wear a mask in such an already-cramped space were she to visit. I'm already rather gun-shy about how stifling and constrictive the CPAP feels in *ideal* circumstances, mind you. Three sides of the bed are enclosed by a wall or furniture. My girlfriend likes to sleep on the exposed side of the bed for frequent bathroom trips. I have kept the CPAP on both a nightstand behind the bed and on the floor beneath during previous attempts.

Any thoughts? Has anyone been able to pull this off? Or is this arrangement simply unfeasible?

Kindness and thanks,

Ross

You will really have to be motivated.LOL. Well, how has it worked so far? My partner and I share a double bed, open on both sides and it's a tight fit. I generally don't like to sleep face to face due to the venting of the mask, it's not so bad if it's venting to her back. At least that's ny way of thinking of it, she has never complained.
Good luck.
Even in a full-size bed it's a tight fit? How will I ever make this work?
Well, my mate likes to spread out, and the mask does take up some head space. We usuall;y cuddle, then I turn over and put my mask on. The only thing I know to do is give it a try. Love can sometime make anything work, but if it's just too crowded...
Good Luck.

Wow, I thought I had it rough in a queen size bed with a husband and an 80lb Greyhound. How about a Murphy Bed ?
I don't think my landlord would allow for such. Does everyone on this board really have a queen- or king-size bed?
I sleep in a double and really fit just fine with my mate.

One word: "spoon".

You will have to face the wall, it sounds like, with her curled up behind you. Hopefully there's enough room for her to roll over to get out to go to the bathroom.
I share a queen bed with my partner and two cats; and it is a bit too cozy at times. I slept in twin beds when I was in the military and I couldn't imagine two people sleeping in the same twin bed -- with or without CPAP. Could you consider getting a sleeper sofa, even a love seat sleeper?
*giggle* This is absolutely no help to you - but - my hubby and I slept together in a roll-away cot (think they are the same size or possibly slightly smaller than a twin bed) for over a year when we first married. Your post brings back memories!
