I would count myself in the ranks of those 100% compliant -- meaning that, with very few exceptions, I use my machine every single night, all night, and whenever I take a nap.

Hopefully I'm not alone. What about everyone else?

I use my machine every night, even though I had a seizure with it on. Now thats dedication! it does help me get sleep thats a fact! It changed my life with my kids and my wife! we spend more time together and I am not so darn grumpy now LOL.

Day 2 of using my cpap-- and I have been 100% compliant ;-)
me too-- day two here ;-)

Well, I can honestly say I'm 100% compliant. I've used it every night, all night, since I got it.

Yesterday.

;)
Hi Jan,

I made 100% on day two, too!

Sounds like we're doing well!
you guys are the rock stars of CPAP compliance. 100 percent right out of the box? quite an accomplishment. most people do not fare nearly as well.

i've been on cpap for about 1-2 months..i wear it every night but i tend to wake up around 3am and often i am not able to go back to sleep.. I feel much better anyway even though i still nap (usually without a mask). my machine is a res med elite 11 (it doesn't say anything about S*?????? i go to cornell weill annd they don't recommend the macHines with a humidifier(compliance problems and the risk of infection).

Any info about the zeo?
carole
Risk of infection? Are they still in the dark ages? Compliance problems WITH humidifier??? What about compliance problems w/o humidifier??
Not all patients like the humidifier. Myself included. A dirty machine can cause an infection.
Hi Susan,

Thank you for your help. I was quite poorly (trapped wind) so haven't been on the site for a few days. Yes, I am a mouth breather. I have large polyps in each nostril, plus some nose damage, so have never really been able to breath through my nose. My mask covers my nose and my mouth. I haven't heard of GERD. I will google it. I have tried taking meds before I go to sleep, but it makes no difference. I'm in England and although I have requested a follow up visit with my Specialist, I haven't received one! I will follow it up though.
The pain was really bad last Friday - but a strange thing happened. My daughter had been playing with a friend and her friend's Mother brought her home. She asked if I was ok (I didn't look it) and I explained. She went home and returned with some freshly ground Cumin. She told me to eat 2 x teaspoons and wash it down with a little water. Within 30mins the pain had gone! I slept without the mask Fri and Sat night, but could hardly move yesterday, I was so exhausted! I used it again last night, but only lasted around 90mins before the pain woke me...

Sali, are you a mouth-breather? The reason I ask is if you are, you may be blowing away a LOT of your CPAP treatment through your mouth. I just found out that's what I've been doing. Have started on a full face mask now to prevent my losing it even if I DO mouth breathe. Another option is a chin strap that keeps you from breathing out of your mouth.

I've also heard someone on here say that people with GERD often swallow air during CPAP treatment which causes pain. Do you have GERD? What would happen if you took your meds BEFORE you go to sleep? Would that help?

If you feel like you're not getting enough air, I'd be willing to bet your pressure's too low. You don't need to "hope" someone will do something--you need to INSIST that someone, probably your sleep MD, do something!!! There's no need for you to suffer for lack of adequate pressure. I'd strongly encourage you to call your sleep doc and tell them you need to be seen ASAP......

You might consider posting a Discussion about the stomach pain/pressure issue--there are a lot of people on SG who can help you sort through this.....

I really want to be 100% :-( But my tummy fills with air and I have such pain that I have to take the mask off. As recommended on this site, they dropped the pressure from 10 to 8. I still wake with pain, but I'm waking before I get into the severe pain stage, apart from one night last week, when I was in so much pain that I thought I would need to call an ambulance. The pain normally happens within 2 hours of putting the mask on. Then I have to walk around, take tablets, drink hot water until it subsides enough for me to lie down again (without mask) for the rest of the night. I returned to the hospital last Fri and they reduced the pressure to 7, but now when I put the mask on I feel as if I have no air! I put my hand to the exhaust frequently, to ensure that air is coming out and have lifted the mask to make an escape sound, so there is air coming through. I have slept but have woken and panicked to get my mask off. I don't know whether I am getting apnoeas and perhaps there's not enough air coming through to open my airway? I have asked to see the consultant again with the possibility of having an observation sleep study. Fingers crossed. I was told that reducing the pressure should have stopped me filling with air. I am often short of breath for no apparent reason... is it possible I could have a lung problem, whereby the air can't enter effectively and so is escaping into my stomach? I apologise for not knowing much about how the body works! I should add that I love my mask and actually looked forward to putting on at bedtime.... it was just the pain I didn't like!
I'm 100% compliant. I wear my nose pillows every night and every time I take a nap. I do it because I dont want to wake up feeling hungover, sick to my stomach, and exhausted, like I used to before cpap. What I dont do is clean it the way I'm supposed to. Sorry, it's just plain ole laziness and I just dont feel the need. Oh, and I drink day old water that's sitting on my night stand too. Sometimes, when I'm feeling really naughty, I wear the same jammies 2 nights in a row. I know, I know, I'm a sick puppy!! Geez!! I cant help it. But I do wear my mask every single night, every single nap.
I don't have the symptoms of GERD :-)

Sali, have you considered having those polyps removed? There is such a thing as "silent reflux" very common w/CPAPpers. And you obviously are encountering "aerophagia" given all the gas and pain you are encountering. If you are not getting any response from your sleep doctor enlist your local DME supplier's RRT's assistance in getting thru to him/her and getting you some relief for the aerophagia. And give some SERIOUS consideration to having those polyps removed and maybe they can even do some correction of the damage to your nose. A good ENT should be able to provide some answers about that and the polyps.
