My husband happened to mention to me today that I was snoring all night and that my snoring never stopped when I started using my CPAP. Does anyone else still snore while using their CPAP? My nose tends to plug up at night so I breath through my mouth most of the time but I thought using the CPAP would stop the snoring. Am I incorrect in assuming this?
If you are using a nasal mask and breathing through your mouth the problem comes back. In fact by breathing through your mouth you can actually cause an exacerbation of your sleep apnea and/or snoring.
It is time to see your PCP and maybe get a full face mask.
It could be several things though. If you have a heated humidifier (in line with your CPAP) then start using that first. You can also try a chinstrap to keep your mouth closed.
It's also possible that you aren't on enough pressure.
In order:
Try a Heated humidifier first. Then a Full face mask. If both of those don't work, then see about an AutoTitration home study (or permanent use)
I hope that the issue is mask leak or an insufficient pressure setting, because I don't want you to have to deal with the added hassle of a full face mask (FFM) unless as a last resort. Check the seal of your current device. Try a chin strap. If all else fails, go with the FFM.
