Do you suppose there is any value to an old CPAP machine? I am going through my father's things, and
I found his CPAP. He was not able to adjust to it and only used it very briefly. (If he had used it he might be with us today.)
It's a Remstar Choice LS, model #M367550E. I think it's from the mid-90's.
I'm just going to throw it away unless there's a possibility that someone out there wants it -- and I don't want any money for it, just shipping.

You made a deal, I accepted, you wanted sympathy, I wanted the machine. When I said I would send a check it should have been over. As a businessman I would have accepted anything you sent because we made a deal.
Do what Judy says if you can.

Mike,
I'm sorry it sounded that way -- that's a limitation of email, I guess, that you could not see my facial expressions, etc. My apologies.
If you want it, you can certainly have it, and it will save me the trouble of finding someone else who wants it.
Being a newbie to the CPAP community, it just seems old to me -- but you're right, if you can set it to the pressure you need, it will certainly do the job.
I was sad when I found the machine. My father needed it, but it was difficult for him to adjust to it and my mom was not at all supportive of him using it. I wish he had, because it might have extended his life. I miss him a lot and wish he had taken better care of himself.

So if someone can use his machine, I will feel very happy.

It looked to me like you were trying to back out of the deal so do whatever you want to with it. So never mind. Thanks

Well, honestly, Mike, you're the only one who seems to want it. I certainly don't.
But it's up to you -- if you want it, and are willing to pay shipping, send me your address. Otherwise, never mind.
I just want to get rid of it, but it seems a waste to throw it away.

Just give it to someone else

Mike,
You're welcome to it. Where do you live? Send me your address and I'll ship it on Monday.
You can send info to my email, pfann447@yahoo.com

No I don't but a pressure of 17 is a pressure of 17 so I possibly could use it. If you don't want to send it no problem. Sorry I bothered.

Do you actually use this kind of CPAP machine? It seems so old to me.

Mike Fritz said:
I would like it for a possible backup but if you decide to give it to charity that is ok. Pm me and I will send you a check for shipping.
You can try Ebay. Someone may want to try a machine out before the buy a newer one.
e-Bay doesn't allow CPAPs to be sold from their website anymore.
Thanks, DD, that's exactly right. I was surpised that someone wanted such an old machine. I posted the offer never expecting a reply at all.

I found someone who wants it on another board.

>>Mike, she wasn't backing out of the deal, she was just curious if it was an outdated machine and probably didn't realize that it still met the needs for some users. Sounds to me like the email emotional mix-up.....I think if you would have seen Anne's face, it would have been a shock as in "Someone would actually want a 10 year old CPAP machine?"
Whew! DDKnight, THANK YOU for stepping in!

And, Ann, thank you so much for finding someone needy who can use that CPAP!!!! AND for letting us know. Your thoughtfulness on both counts is very much appreciated.

Thanks for the offer of giving this machine to someone that is in need of one and cannot afford to buy one.

This is still a new forum with many new users that may be fearful of using "preowned" equipment, masks, etc. Those that are uninsured or underinsured need an outlet where they maybe able to pick up equipment that is still adequate for their needs for little or no cost involved. I hope that we can help some of those that fall through the cracks become compliant with our help -- both on sleepguide.com and cpaptalk.com. At the present time, cpaptalk.com forum members are more open to accepting preowned equipment and supplies, as long as the equipment and supplies are useable and in good condition. I hope that this forum eventually opens up so that members here are more willing to accept the generous offers of others.
Carol,
The person who took the machine was on cpaptalk.com.

I was aware of that and the reason I made the comments about cpaptalk being more open to gently used equipment and supplies.

I do not want this forum to become so closed minded about the use of gently used equipment and supplies that the idea is scoffed at and one made to feel inferior because they choose to use this equipment. Through your generous offer someone now can use a machine, regardless if it is a spare machine or the primary machine, to enhance their health.
Well said, SleepyCarol.
Anne - I think you were very generous to offer this to someone in need. I think the generosity of people, like you, and the others who participate in this group to help others are what makes people like me coming back. I have been so impressed with how wonderful the people are to share their knowledge, equipment, tips and to encourage each other. It is obvious to me that you are a kind hearted person and I wish more people in the world had your generous and giving spirit.

Mary,
Thanks for your kind words. I have to say that this board was tremendously helpful to me when I started on CPAP back in April. They helped me get the right machine, educated me about what features I needed, and most importantly, encouraged me to find a good DME supplier (rather than just go with the big supplier my doctor recommended.) Without their support, I know I would still be struggling to adjust to CPAP. The wonderful RT I went to at the small, mom & pop DME set me up with a good mask right from the start, was available by phone for questions, and was knowledgable and helpful in every way. I only went there because the experienced people here at Sleepguide helped me find the right person.

Just a quick postscript to this discussion.

I was talking with someone on cpaptalk.com who was considering taking my machine, but had not yet solidified that transaction. However, I had also called the sleep lab where I had my sleep study and left them a message. The sleep tech returned my call late this afternoon. He says they can absolutely find someone who needs a machine but doesn't have insurance to buy one and he was happy to take the machine off my hands.

I am glad because he will know how to adjust the settings, etc, and someone who needs it will get the machine.

So if anyone else has a machine you want to donate, call your local sleep lab. Maybe they can help you.

Anne
