I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in January.  Since then I have tried pillow masks because that's the type my sleep doc ordered.  Tried several others but I woke up with extreme dry mouth every morning with all of them.  On last day of 30 day trial period I finally figured out my problem was I needed a full face mask because I was sleeping with my mouth open.  My medical supply company brought me one with the with understanding if it didn't work, I was out of luck...my trial period was over.

The gave me Quattro FX for Her full mask.  Brand new on market.  No matter how loose or tight I made straps it didn't stop air leaks from waking me up in middle of night.  I ordered two other masks from www.caplibrary.com.  They let you try whatever mask you want for a week for $14.00 prepaid return postage included with the $14.  Had same problem with leakage with the 2 different ones I asked for.  BTW, he only charged me $14 for the both.

In the meantime I bought myself a FitLife Full Face in large very cheaply ($90 compared to over $200 some sites) because I was desperate and heard such great things about it,  Fits great and is very comfortable but I have the same problem with air leakage after a couple hours of sleep.  I called the padacheek site and spoke with the woman who makes them.  Although the one for FitLife is not yet on her site she is making them.  I haven't gotten it yet but I'll let you all know how it works.

I suffer from Panic Disorder and keep it in check by taking XanaxXR and an antidepressant.  Right now I'm in the process of weaning off one antidepressantXR and onto another.  When I'm done with that within another week or so, we'll start weaning down one milligram of XanaxXR very slowly,

I know this is long but does anyone in the group have problems with air leaks and/or using meds that might be a cause of my problem with the masks?

Thanks in advance....

Sorry, people.  I meant to add the padacheek address.  It's www.padacheack.com   Check it out.  The woman who makes them uses good padding.  She suffers from sleep apnea herself and has a problem with air leaks.

Rita, I just checked and realized there is a typo in the address. It's www.padacheek.com (not padacheak).

Also, there's a typo in the other address. I believe (but for some reason can't reach it to check it out) that the other address is www.cpaplibrary.com

I am delighted to know about both resources. Thanks for posting them.

You are right, ZolliStar.  That's what I get for not checking to see if I need to edit something before sending out my message.

Try www.cpaplibrary.com/index.html

I also use the full face mask( I am a mouth breather) and usually start having problems after the first couple of months with leaks. My headgear Velcro wears out quickly forcing me to tighten and tighten the mask to prevent leaks until it no longer holds at all, or it becomes to tight and uncomfortable to wear. I've found that washing and cleaning the gear helps extend its life but at the most it barely lasts 6 months. Replacing the headgear and soft parts of the face mask + filters every 3 months would be best if you can afford this.. I cannot so I have to make due as best I can. I remember during my sleep study the mask they provided leaked a little and when  asked about the leak the technician told me that small leaks were common, and not to be worried... but I too wake up, when it makes noise, or leaks. I also suffer from bipolar disorder, and panic disorder. I fight with the cpap mask by tugging at it in my sleep especially when anxiety levels are high.. although due to other health problems, I am leery of being back on those meds for an entirely different reason, I would talk to your doctor and see what he may think, ( my mental health therapist has also helped me with finding some alternative devices that I might consider in place of the full face mask ) I personally have taken xanax before and found that I slept like a rock regardlless of whether the mask stayed on or not. It had in fact, fallen off at some point during the night without me noticing...  that worried me a lot! my sleep apnea is very severe and I dont want to risk sleeping without it! I personally would be concerned about taking any medication that could interact negatively with my cpap treatment if it were me. With some people, there may not be a choice, especially when they are already on medications like, anti depressants and anti anxieties, because of the danger of suddenly stopping treatment like that. I would definitely bring it up with your doctors A.S.A.P. (My metal health doctors have already indicated that in the past my medications have proven helpful and although I agree, I am reluctant to take anything that may worsen my cpap therapy presently, or my liver condition, as it currently exists, without being monitored regularly by a physician.
