Hi All,

I have been diagnosed with mild positional SA and the sleep specialist has suggested looking at sleep pillow therapy. Have started on the Sona Pillow, still too early days to notice any change. At this point trying to get use to the pillow is a challenge. Anyone out there have had experience on this?

Also I'm researching on the subject of Alternative Treatments for Sleep Apnea. I am pleasantly surprised that there are a number of Alternative Treatments that have had successful clinical tests.

Will share with the group once I've got more details. Anyone out there with similar interest?

Are you doing an o2 study to see if your pillow is enough to help you? Good Sleep,Chris

Hi Chris, Yes I'll be going for a second sleep test later after I've got used to the sleep pillow and not struggling with it. Hopefully the test result will be what I expect it to be. Although I do notice that I seem to be dreaming a little more or at least I think I can remember more of my dreams which only means I'm reaching more REM sleep.

Hi J, So you did not get a recording pulse ox  to see how you are doing? It is no where as inclusive as a complete sleep study but it can give a ballpark idea if your pillows are allowing you to breathe.Good Sleep,Chris

Hi Chris,

This sounds new to me. Can you educate me a little more on this 'pulse ox' recording. Point me to a link where I can do some reading on this.

tks,

Johng

I have an AHI in the teens, now sometimes in the high single digits.  My pulse ox test a month or so go never went below 95% for two nights.  I don't believe pulse oximetry is exactly correlated with AHI.

Hi Johng,

If you go to the main discussion page the box with the magnifing glass put in "pulse ox" and you will find numerous discussions to check out. The fellow with the pillows is Oswald Abraham again if you put his name in the box with the magnifing glass you can see all that he has said. He is from Melboume too ....Might be near you.  u-sleepwell.com is his sight.Good Sleep,Chris

I was reading about an Alternative treatment method called the "Provent Sleep Apnea Treatment". It is a pair of nasal strip device that you attach onto your nostrils. These nasal strips have a proprietary microvalve built in that creates pressure when you exhale. It is this pressure that keeps the air way open. It seems to be using the same sort of principle of the CPAP machine but without the discomfort of the Mask. Check it out here:  www.proventtherapy.com/about_provent

Anyone used this and would like to share some personal experience on this new device?

In fact the Provent site listed above has the information for a ten day  introductory supply.  I do not have any personal experience with them myself.  I would love to hear from someone who has tried them.

Hi Johng, I have seen a demo of this device. It adhears to your nose for a one night use . It takes a few days to get used to...$2 per day . No electricity needed but you glue it to you each night.Good Sleep,Chris

Did you try CPAP? Sleeping on your side? You can sew a tennis ball into the back of a shirt that will help you stay on your side.

thanks Chris, I've signed up for their 10-night Trial pack. Can't wait for it to be delivered. Cheers buddy,

Hi Mary, yes I've signed up for their 10-night Trial pack. Can't wait for it to be delivered. Not sure whether they have a local distributor here in Australia. Will wait patiently ;-)

Cheers,
