Respironics Encore Software/ Price of the Phillips machine

I was sent a copy of the software by a member of another CPAP group, but it will only work on Windows XP, and I am running Windows 7. If anyone can use this, I will mail it to them. And if Anyone has the Encore program that will run on Windows 7, I would love to have a copy. I think it is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS that they would charge ONE HUNDRED BUCKS EXTRA for the software, considering what we pay for the CPAP machine.

On that topic, I would like to get an idea what people are paying around the world for the Phillips Respironic machine with humidifier. I was first quoted a price of TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS (!!!) for the machine, then they came "down" to SIXTEEN HUNDRED. They are a lot like car companies and mattress dealers, you can't find a suggested retail price anywhere, at least I couldn't!! Perhaps if we were to share this information, we could help others get a better deal on the machine.

I agree that it's absurd to charge so much for patient software. It should be included free with the machine. I'll take it off your hands if you don't already have a taker.

I don't know how much my machine cost. It was bundled with services from the equipment supplier and I think I pay some amount per month.

Chris

while you have industrys like hospitals you are captive audiance to their prices and they know so

there should be legislation to stop this profiteering

Hi Gary, I paid approx $2300 for my machine plus humidifier in Australia, this is the RRP in Australia and what most seem to charge.  I also purchased the Encore Viewer software ($195) from PR and could not get it to work on Windows 7. After many emails to Respironics, via my son who works in IT, PR admitted it won't really work on any new computers!

Its the 62 bit vs 34 bit. EncoreViewer or Pro will work w/Win XP and w/the 32 bit Win 7, but not Win 64. I "think" I read someone at cpaptalk found a way to use EV on a 64 bit Win 7 but I sure wouldn't swear on that!!!

A lot of people in the USA have found that buying out of pocket online is cheaper than their copay buying thru a local DME provider. Most insurances purchase the accessories, i.e. humidifier, mask, etc. outright but insist on a rent to own purchase of the xPAP of from 3-13 months.

A lot of businesses are beginning to balk at constantly having to purchase Windows upgrades and are trying out and buying other systems.

Thanks for your input, folks!! Much appreciated. Chris, if you want that software disk, send me your address and I will gladly mail it to you. Although, from comments from Judy and Susan, I wonder if it will  be of any use!!!

This is a RIDICULOUS situation. Paying what is to most of us A FORTUNE for a CPAP machine, then having to pay a lot more for the software to go with it. I understand their rationale is that it should only be read by professionals, which to me is HORSE HOCKEY!! I want to be able to do a regular check to be sure I am benefiting from what must be a solid gold machine!!! What can possibly be wrong with that??

Susan, I think you paid DOUBLE what most of us have paid. I am buying mine outright, but my insurance only pays for part, and does not pay for future purchases of masks, etc. That is my understanding, anyway. You would get the impression, that this is not a serious disase--it seems to be treated that way!!

Gary

I am also surprised at how much the masks cost in Australia. I have pruchased a Quattro, a Quattro FX, a Liberty and a comfort Gel FFM and each mask cost $300. I often see US people talking about getting new masks every 3 or 6 months from their supplier. In Australia you must pay for it all. My private health insurance company only pays approx $800 once every 3 years towards a machine.

With the rise of the Aust dollar it's getting cheaper to buy online form the US

Susan

Gary, If you still have the Software I would like to buy it. I am about to order some from CPAP.com. Just message me, I am new to the board and don't know how it works yet.....Thanks

I still have the software disks, but have not been able to run it as I am using Windows 7, and it requires you run Win XP. I will gladly send a copy if you email me your address. It will have to wait until the Post Office strike is over, though :)) It should be soon!!

Gary

Marvin, I would suggest that posting your address publicly is NOT a good idea. You can send private messages via this forum and I would suggest that you delete your address from your above post and then sent it to Gary via a PM.

Marvin, email me at:  munner2010@gmail.com with your address. No need to send money, it was sent free to me by a person in a different CPAP group, so I will just make a copy and send it to you.
