Sleep Apnea Surgery: Part II of the FOX News Interview

If you didn't like first three minutes of the Sleep Apnea Surgery segment on FOX featured in yesterday's article, you're going to hate the last minute. At about the three minute mark in the video, embedded below, the host, co-host and even the surgeon being interviewed each take turns at belittling and mocking CPAP users:

"Kind of makes you look like the Montauk Monster," the host says around the 3-minute mark, to which the doctor agrees, laughs and joins in . . . "more like an elephant snout." The co-host then chimes in, in the same mocking tone, "something you can only wear if you're married... you wouldn't want to bust that out before then." I don't know about you all, but this part of the FOX news report literally made me cringe. The message being aired nationwide here is that if you suspect you have Sleep Apnea, but you don't want to go in for an invasive surgical procedure, you're out of luck. That is, unless you (i) are married or (ii) want to give up all hope of a sex life because this thing called CPAP is a ridiculous monstrosity that will repel potential mates like the attractive co-hosts of FOX News.

Publicity and raising awareness about Sleep Apnea is generally a good thing, but when presented in this fashion, I wonder whether it actually does more harm than good.

Hello all, I am new to this site but wanted to make a comment based on other people's comments. I did not listen to the video but based on what people are saying, what the news reported is just plain obnoxious. Why would they, the news, pick on people? Who are they to comment about what is what and all? You know, maybe this news person and this obnoxious doctor JUST NEED TO GROW UP! What's next? Picking on people who, Heaven forbid, have Cancer or Diabetes? It is NOT right to pick on ANYONE who has a problem no matter what the problem is. If you ask me, these two people have a problem. They are arrogant and inconsiderate of others!! Wonder how their spouses look at them!

Dr. Walden appears, to me, to be much more interested in doing what is "good for business" than doing what is good for the patient.http://is.gd/g4XT

My husband loves my CPAP because he can now sleep through the night with me. Even my dog doesn't seem to mind it. This is about what I would expect from FOX News.

More irresponsible journalism. My Dr told me that surgery wouldn't help me. I guess Periotanel dialysis patients will be the next group to be mocked by FOX. After all, having to attach that bag of glucose to your gut certainly wouldn't be considered a "babe magnet."

It's funny. My husband does wear one and we joke about it all the time. Laughter is good for the soul...lighten up!!
