Outrageous Claims by Dentists???
I am responding to your post "Outrageous claims by dentists". You mention an unfortunate situation where a dentist placed an oral appliance in a patient's mouth without any diagnostic basis for doing so. There can be no justification for this behavior and no dentist who is trained in sleep medicine would do such a thing. - Dr. Lawler, I was fascinated by the webpage you sent me to. I'd suggest you gather more feedback by posting a new topic on it at http://www.sleepguide.com/forum/topic/new , but until then, here are my thoughts:
I think you do a really good job of talking about the physiology of this problem/ the anatomical issues. You don't do as much talking about how the treatment will help. I don't think that should be the focus necessarily, since i appreciate the in-depth explanation of the anatomy. But somewhere you should highlight how your treatment helps.

For many years... (Well too many) I have looked at my super obese patients and wanted to try a combination of therapy. Dental appliances in tandem with CPAP.
One case a 700 lbs male's obstructed apnea could not be reduced any lower than 60 events per hour and had desaturations as low as 68% with 3 liters of oxygen. In just a couple of weeks of testing he passed away. This was a tragedy that should not have happened. He refused tracheotomy; I wanted his Physician to try a dental device as well. This patient had a week jaw and a neck girth of 29 inches.
This is that one patient I have thought about and sure will continue to haunt me.
