Do you think you may have sleep apnea or someone you love may have sleep apnea?

Are you aware of the dangers of untreated sleep apnea?

Are there reasons you haven't had a sleep study?

Have questions about treatment options?

Have you had a sleep study but have questions about your diagnosis?

Want to know what you should know BEFORE you pick up your equipment?

Want to know what you should ask the doctor after the sleep study?

This is the place to post those and any other questions you may have.

I went for the CPAP sleep study on 12/27/08 and am still waiting to hear from my pulmonologist for the next step. The sleep tech sent me home with the 2 different masks they tried on me, but that is it.
My question is, what should I be asking the doctor when he schedules me for a consultation?

Thanks,
Karen
Tell him you want a data capable machine and nothing less. Insurance pays the same regardless of which model you get so might as well get one that will help you and your doctor monitor your therapy.

If I were asking for a specific machine I would ask for an M series apap with a-flex. It is the most versatile machine made today.
My husband is about to have a sleep study for sleep apnea. I have thought he had it for a long time. I think I may have it too as I am aware of waking up many times at night and don't feel rested in the AM. I joined this group so, if we have questions, we have somewhere to go to ask them.
Hello
I just joined and used my cpap machine for the first time last night. I laid in bed for 2 hours not being able to sleep. Hurt to sleep on my back. Got up and took a sleeping pill and finally drifted off with everything running. I hope it's not the same tonight. How long did it take for you to get used to yours?
It takes time to adjust.

For some it may take several weeks to adjust to sleeping with a mask strapped to your face. For others it is only a few days.

Give yourself sometime to get used to it. Try using it some while awake. Read, watch TV, or just relax. Make sure your mask isn't so tight that it is causing discomfort.

Are you using your ramp? Many of us find it is beneficial in the beginning and after a while stop using it. I know I used my ramp feature for awhile in the beginning.
I had my sleep study on June 6...Within 2 weeks I got a call from the Home care company that was going to supply my machine...I laughed when I told them that I did not even get the results yet!! So she told me that I had "severe" sleep apnea with Hypopnea index of 33.....I got my results when I went to my nutritionist. She made me a copy.....

So I got my machine by mid june,,, The first night I thought would be much worse than it was.....I have adapted pretty quickly... I still have not gone to a Pulmonologist...I figure I will give it a few months and see how things go before I make an appointment.
It seems to be working ok..I do not fall asleep at work anymore!!! (except at really, REALLY boring meetings ..lol)
My wife is very concerned. She is convinced that I am going to die while I am asleep. Can that happen, or has it ever happened? I recently saw my doctor and she is scheduling a sleep study for me. It seems that sleep apnea may be a problem for me, and it may be the reason I have high blood pressure as well. I came across this website, and I appreciate all the great info. Hopefully I can find some answers so my wife can sleep at night instead of sitting over me worrying.
