I have a "brick" -- my old CPAP used faithfully every night for almost two years.

While I could sell it on Craig's List (and pick up a few bucks), I pefer to donate it to an organization or give it to someone whose circumstances are tight and who would be pleased to receive a good machine gratis.

I'll never go back to CPAP (I do better on APAP), but if I wanted to, could set my pressures on the APAP to CPAP-style pressures.

So far (with some fits and starts) the dental appliance that I'm testing is working out very well. (In the hope of helping someone else, in due time I'll detail the dental device experience.) Going forward, I may alternate between the appliance ant the APAP.

Bottom line: I'll never use the CPAP again.

I'm happy to give away or donate my CPAP. It's a Respironics System One RemStar. It is not (alas) data capable.

Any suggestions as to how I can give or donate my old, trusty machine? It's a good machine likely to give someone years of service.

Do you have an A.W.A.K.E. chapter near you, ZolliStar?  I feel like they can find a use for your cpap.  It's not a  bad idea to keep it around as a spare.  If you sell it on a forum all kinds of folks would come out of the woodwork.  You could also try second wind and maybe get enough

money to buy something you like.  I hope you find someone who needs the thing.

I am now proud owner of two, count 'em two, APAPs.  I'm also using (and will detail the experience, which is unfolding) a dental appliance. Short story re: appliance:  It's working!  It's working!

My thought is that I want to alternate between the appliance (I don't want any future dental problems: a very small, but real, risk) and an APAP.  I bought a dandy little APAP off of Craig's List; I upgraded to a top-of-the-line APAP, also off of Craig's, when I saw it available for $300.

If I ever want a CPAP, it's easy: Just make the two APAP pressures the same!  But I don't ever expect to want a CPAP. I'm one of the people that Dr. Park says is better off with APAP. He has patients who have changed from APAP to CPAP and are doing better with it. As Dr. Park says: It's a matter of trying different protocols. No one-size-fits-all approach to sleep apnea.

I'm going to keep my eyes open re: my old CPAP. I know, just know, someone would love to have it, is enduring a financial squeeze, and would be thrilled to avoid the cost. I'd love to help.

What name or brand appliance are you using?

I guess it's a Gergen: It comes in container emblazoned with the words "Gergen's Laboratories".

Hope this helps.
