Hi Chris,

The strap is connected using velcro so it can be released fairly quickly.

It sure doesn't look very comfortable in my opinion.

 

Have you actually used this? 

 

Have you thought about giving a few forum members a sample and then have them write reviews for you?  This would be great endorsements for you.

This looks awful, sorry. I've tried at least 6 chinstraps, I got this new one and it's fantastic, the chin part cups nicely,  &  it's about as strong as you can get and still be slim.I don't want to be wrapped like a mummy, what happens in the summer?

No problem Gordon.  I'm glad that you were able to find a strap that works for you and understand how frustrating it can be to try so many different straps before finding one that works.  I actually live in South Florida where it feels like summer almost year round so I understand your concern.  Although the strap doesn't look slim, the material that it is made out of is very breathable and lightweight and provides a comfortable fit around the chin.  I appreciate your comments.

It looks a little cumbersome, to take off in the night, to drink and such. My wife has fashioned me a couple(duds), but the new one I posted is REALLY good, Cardinal/Carefusion redesigned some. With your mouth shut, you can really pull this one tight, and feel the chin snug. Even the doc said "they don't work very well" when I asked about a new one, but the DME guy said the same thing about full-faced masks, that he usually doesn't put someone into one, when you're used to nasal pillows for so long, he said" they leak a lot". The FX Swift has been fantastic, I love the supply hose's flexibility. 

I think it may be vinegar residue regarding my other post, I read on another board, vinegar residue causes sneezing/nasal congestion.

Russ, I am absolutely impressed with your sleep apnea chin strap. One of the CPAP manufacturers refers to studies that show about 50% of CPAPers breathe through the mouth or have mouth leaks. Previous generations of chin straps may hold the jaws shut but still allow air to leak between the lips.

Your sleep apnea chin strap seems to solve this problem. It looks like a good solution for CPAPers who do not like their full face masks and would like to use a nasal mask or nasal pillows.

Also, it seems your chin strap places pressure on the cheeks. Some CPAPers have problems with arousals because of air pressure backing up into their mouths and causing their cheeks to balloon out. Your chin strap may very well prevent this problem also.

As far as the complaint about not being able to drink something in the middle of the night, if one properly hydrates themselves throughout the day there should be no need to drink something in the middle of the night. It also might be that this urge to drink something in the night is due to mouth breathing and will go away using your strap.

What is the fiber content of the material from which the strap is made?

I appreciate your comments.  You are spot on with your analysis and bring up a great point about the previous generations of chin straps that still allow air to leak between the lips.  This was one of my frustrations with the half dozen other straps that I tried before creating the Ultimate Chin Strap.  As I mentioned in a previous post, I know that it is not a very "slim" chin strap but in order for it to prevent air from leaking between the lips and ballooning out your cheeks, the strap had to be slightly larger to ensure that the chin, mouth and cheeks are wrapped so that it actually works. As you mentioned, the design prevents you from mouth breathing and waking up every morning with a dry mouth. 

 

The strap is made out of an elastic cotton blend that is very lightweight and breathable. The best comparison is the material that mattresses are made out of.

Does your design mean that it canNOT be used with a Nasal Mask since that area under the nose is already covered up by your chinstrap?

Hi Steven,

I used a Nasal Mask myself for several months in combination with the Ultimate Chin Strap and it worked well.  I have also received feedback from several others who use a Nasal Mask in combination with my chin strap and they haven't had any trouble.  The chin strap just buts up tight to the bottom of the Nasal Mask.  I know that there are some designs that come down slightly more than others but I haven't received feedback or experienced a Nasal Mask yet that there was an issue.  I recently switched to the Opus 360 Nasal Pillows Mask and love it!  I have found the slim design to be much more comfortable and less of an issue when it comes to mask displacement than other masks that I have used.  I hope this helps.
