Trying to find out if anyone has tried either the Respironics Bipap S/T or the Bipap Auto S/V

I will be going to one of these machines and I would like to find out if anyone has used either one of these and to find out which one would be better of the two. right now it looks like they are going to order the S/T. They did not ask me which one I wanted and I want to get the best one that would help me the most. So does anyone out there can give me some direction I would love it.

Hi RIch,
This is Melodie (Mel), and I use the Respironics Bi-PAP Auto SV unit. I have Central Sleep Apnea, and literally stop breathing for up to 2 full minutes several times during the night (I don't recall the exact number of times this happens), but with my Bi-PAP Auto SV I can sleep through the night with no problems and feel rested and ready to face the world when I awaken.

I was first started on a ResMed Mirage Swift II C-PAP, but the physician quickly found that I needed the more complex Bi-PAP Auto SV. I don't know how I was even sleeping before receiving this fabulous machine. Mine has 3 breathing levels and is set at 14-4-14. The third level of 14 forces me to take a breath when I don't on my own.

I don't have any knowledge of the S/T unit, but I would not trade my machine for all the money in the world! I have also been told by my Respiratory Therapist that the machine I have has the newest technology and is by far the best machine available at this time. That makes me feel even better.

As far as a mask and headgear, I first started with a ResMed Mirage Swift II nose pillows, but they dried me out too much and started causing sores way up in my nostrils. I recently switched to a Respironics ComfortGel Nasal Mask and absolutely love it. So everything is great for me now and I look forward to going to bed and sleeping in peace and not worrying if my cat is going to wake me during the night because I have stopped breathing. I also have emphysema and COPD, so my Bi-PAP Auto SV has an oxygen bleed of 4 liters per minute while sleeping, as my body doesn't get enough oxygen either.

Whatever machine you decide to go with, please let us know. I hope I have been helpful in some way. You can feel free to ask me anything you want about my machine and my mask. I am now a happy sleeper, unless my narcolepsy medication keeps me from being able to go to sleep - which does happen on occassion. Other than that, I love my Bi-PAP Auto SV and ComfortGel Nasal Mask.

Good luck!
Mel
