Just got back from the doctor and he ordered a 24hr holter monitor. On the order, it has the disgnosis of syncope, which simply means, "fainting". I've been having fainting episodes for near a month now and want to get down to the bottom of this. Doctor is concerened that is has to do with my heart as I've got swelling in my ankles, high cholestrol, past history of chest pain, irregular heartbeat, etc, etc.....

I just thought you'd all be interested in this as I believe it's tied right into sleep apnea. Will follow up when I find out what's happening.

do you have low blood pressure? my wife has syncope associated with low blood pressure.
Good luck, RChatty!!! (((hugs)))
No, unfortunately, my blood pressure was normal. I wish it was that easy, then I could just go off my high blood pressure meds.

I had one of my "episodes" right there in the doctor's office.
I hope they get to the bottom of it for you. It is no fun when you faint.
you might talk to your doctor about the advisability of a pace maker. those syncope episodes can get pretty nasty -- the heart could stop. if you don't already have a good cardiologist to talk to about this, i'd get one.

This is interesting. My husband (not a sleep apnea sufferer as far as we know) is waiting to see a doctor about a rare condition he suspects called Swallow Syncope. He has these weird fainting/fit-like episodes, but only ever when he eats or drinks. Does anyone know about this as it's very rare apparently? For now, he makes sures he's always sat in a chair whilst eating or drinking, as he's had too many bruises + black eyes etc from crashing to the floor.
haven't heard of that before, unfortunately.

RChatty, anything new yet? Still fainting? When is the holter monitor scheduled for?

Good Luck,
Mary Z.
