I am currently on a Respironics M series Bi-Pap auto and am looking for a second machine.  I've heard about some of the features in the Resmed S9 bipap auto that I like, and the machine is likely to be released in the next few months.    I was thinking that I might want to try it.

I was diagnosed with SA about 18 months ago and am doing well in my therapy.  I remember early on my doctor advising me not to switch between the two brands because I might have difficulty in adjusting to the different algorithms that the two brands use.

I'd appreciate hearing about any of your experiences.  The features that appeal to me are more data available and easily accessible by led screen, heated hose and I confess, the look of the machine.

I know that these are both good machines-- am just looking for experiences on how people do when switching between them.

And thanks!

Hi Jan, Insurance may not cover a second machine. Is this for use in a different location ? Good Sleep,Chris

Hi Chris-- Thanks for responding.  Initially, it is for use in a different location.  Thankfully, insurance isn't an issue.

Any thoughts on what the doctor said?

Thanks much,

Jan

I started out on an M series apap with c-flex.  I was getting good therapy with it and used it for about 2 and 1/2 years.  In December of 2009 I purchased a ResMed Vantage.  About the same time, my son-in-law was diagnosed and I lent him my M series and used the Vantage while he waited for his equipment.  In using the Vantage I found that I felt better on the Vantage (it does not have EPR relief).  I decided not to go back to the M series and have used the Vantage since then.  In the last week I was able to pick up a ResMed AutoSet II with low hours.  I switched the Vantage out for the AutoSet and really like it.

So it is a possiblity that you might feel better using one machine vs. another -- but the down side is using only one brand won't allow you to compare the machines against each other to know which would povide better therapy.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful response and all of the info that you provided.  You are so knowledgeable about these matters, I am wondering what you like about the S8 and don't like about the S9...and I confess that I am not familiar with the Auto 25 and will look it up.

Thanks so much-- your responses are always so informative.  Most appreciated.

The Resmed Reps have been promising us an S9 VPAP Auto since mid-last year - and they aren't out yet. I suspect it will be a long wait until there is one.

The Resmed S8s came out in 2006 but the S8 VPAP Auto wasn't available until January of 2008 and then the S8 II VPAP Auto 25 was released right after in July of 2008. That's an 18 month - 2 year gap between the S8s and the S8 and S8 II VPAP Autos.

I suspect the S9 VPAP Auto will come out some time shortly before a new S10 series of CPAPs meaning 2012 or 2013.

And, frankly, while there is some new data available w/the S9s over the S8s, I suspect the S9 is a bit of a step backward for Resmed just as the Respironics M Series was a bit of a step backward for Respironics from their Legacy seriies. The S8s and S8 IIs are a sturdy, durable, much loved PAP just as the Legacy series was a sturdy, durable, much-loved PAP for Respironics. JMO.
