I am looking for advice regarding CPAP and infectious disease. A couple weeks ago I came down with a Staph infection, or MRCA, in my nostril. I have not used my CPAP machine since then as I have been waiting for the infection to clear up. I am concerned that the CPAP may have been the source of infection. I think the biggest problem is that many of the side effects that can follow Enalapril, are also symptoms of OSA. Therefore, it may be difficult to separate symptoms.

Suing Hotel over Power Outage
amusing story -- my opinion is that this guy is going way too far (and that the reporter got the part about breathing machine delivery of oxygen wrong -- think they meant Positive Airway Pressure of CPAP:
LAS VEGAS (CN) - A man says he went to bed with sleep apnea and woke up with a wrist disorder, because the hotel where he was staying failed to tell him about a planned power cutoff. Andrew Gold uses a breathing machine that delivers oxygen while he sleeps.
Gold sued the Palazzo Hotel in Clark County Court. He claims hotel officials failed to warn him when he checked in that they were planning a power outage in the early morning hours of Dec. 17, 2008.
Gold says that when the power went off at 3 a.m., the machine stopped and he woke up. He says he stumbled through the dark room to find a light switch, but tripped and hit the palm of his right hand on a nightstand, causing him to develop complex regional pain syndrome, or reflex sympathetic dystrophy.
Gold says had he known about the planned power outage, he would not have stayed at the hotel.
He demands at least $50,000, and says the hotel failed to warn him of the power cutoff, and failed to provide a flashlight in his room for such emergencies.

The amount he is requesting may or may not be a stretch - but hotels are well aware that many of their patrons use and rely on xPAPs during their stay.
AND - if it actually was an 02 concentrator (which like Mike I doubt) there's no way the hotel wasn't aware of the need for electrical power for the concentrator and he should have been forewarned. You don't just sneak an 02 concentrator into a hotel.

I think the real fault hear is not providing customers with flashlights for a planned blackout. This to me would be a liability for the hotel in question. i belive that the patron in question should be compensated for medical expenses, lost revenue, and maybe a little something for emotional, or mental stress (Hush money). Would that total to $50,000? I doubt it. I am sure that part of that is chum for the sharks.

I don't know about the $50K for damages, but the hotel was way out of line in not informing ALL guests of the planned outage. For us, there is the CPAP to contend with and how that would feel just shutting off in the middle of the night-- or having to sleep without it. But there are also other smaller inconveniences that would annoy other guests-- alarm clocks that didn't work, cell phones that may not charge and a bunch of other things that I am not thinking of. Poor business practices, unfortunately.
