I'm green w/envy! I just read this post at another apnea support forum.

"A few weeks ago, I was chatting with a desk clerk at my doctor's office about the new computerization they were doing, and she said that test results are not supposed to be a part of your medical record until they are read and put into your record by your doctor. Lab and radiological test results are uploaded by the lab directly to to my doctor's computer system immediately after the test is completed. Currently, those results automatically become part of the patients' medical records -- before the doctor has seen them.

Patients in my GP's office have on-line access to their medical records via a browser (there is a one-time $100 charge to get this access)."

Man! It would be WORTH that ONE TIME $100 to me if my family doctor had that type of setup!!!!

that would be awesome!

I would pay.
That's pretty nifty! I love it when patients are given control.

One of our reading sleep specialists had implemented Encore Anywhere so that he can monitor patients CPAP compliance. Even better, he actually does it and follows up constantly and sends them back to us for counseling. These "poor patients" aren't given a chance to give up on their CPAP treatment. :^) Currently he has a compliance rate north of 95%.

God I love technology!!!

Jason
And God love that reading sleep specialist!!!! I wish he were mine!!! Can you clone him for us, PLEASE!!!
J -- He is one to keep!!!!

I would pay this to have access to my records.
No I don't believe I would...first my records should be just that MY records and I should not be forced to pay for them. Second I am very apprehensive about having such knowledge online especially in lieu of this health care issue where the government would have access to see whether or not you qualify for insurance...just my opinion....
No. Would you pay for a bank statement?
*giggle* You think that you DON'T pay for your bank records, Juan? The banking industry probably has MORE hidden fees than ANY business in this country!!! HIPAA allows those of us in the USA the LEGAL RIGHT to copies of our medical records - BUT - HIPAA also allows doctors and medical facilities to CHARGE a "reasonable" fee for those copies. AND HIPAA allows the doctors and facilities up to 30 days to provide them after receipt of our request. And LONGER in some cases. At least this allows for access to our medical records just as fast as the doctor gets them which is usually a matter of 2-3 days at most. And then, usually, after they arrive at the doctor's office it is a matter of another couple of days before he sees them and signs off on them as having been received and read before we are "allowed" a copy of them.

You wouldn't have to go thru the "desk dragons" to get them and you would get them much quicker. At least my doctors have finally convinced their "desk dragons" they are to release copies to me whether they have had a chance to go over them yet or not. And one just has his "desk dragons" mail the results to me as soon as they are received in the office w/o my even asking for them.
No.
I've had online access to my records for quite some time, and it didn't cost to set it up. Only about 3 minutes of my time to fill out the authorization papers and receive my user name and password.
I really like it because I can order refills, ask questions of the doctor, set up appointments, review all the doctors notes and test results, etc. My doctor is really good to get back with me within a couple of hours or less with answers to questions I might have. I guess I would have paid for this, but I didn't have to, so I came out ahead.
Ooooh!, Claude!!! I really, Really, REALLY like YOUR doctor!!!!!
