Wow. First night on CPAP.....

I woke up thinking "Oh, so this is what they call sleep. I didn't know you were supposed to wake up feeling like you'd just woke up" I seriously have not slept for so long that I didn't know it was possible. I've always just kinda felt like I drifted along all night.

The main problem I found was that I don't know how to keep my mouth shut so that woke me up 4-5 times. The Home Care rep here said she could get me a chin strap, but for now I'll have to work on learning to keep it shut.

I didn't have any problem with the pressure and did not need to use the ramp button like they said I may. It just felt so good to have that thing blowing down my throat. Another thing.....No restricted movement! I thought I would be confined to my back, but I slept in approx. 75 different postions ranging from back to stomach to side to other side to curled up to....etc....etc.

RChatty, what a nice start! Thanks for letting us know. It will encourage a lot of folks, I'm sure.
Good for you chatty!
Night # 2:

Even better! I didn't wake up until my alarm clock rang and then I couldn't believe it; I wasn't even tired! I didn't even snooze the annoying thing! It was morning and I was ready to go.

Now I'm trying to convince my co-worker to go back on their's because they can't stand it.
Way to go!! That's awesome that It has helped you so much!
I'm still loving the machine, but just curious.....Can you train yourself to keep your mouth closed? That's the only problem I've had so far. I've woke up in the night a couple times with my mouth so dry that it hurt to try to get it wet again. It's not a huge problem, but just something that would be nice if it didn't happen. I can live with that because I feel so much better that 1 little downside is worth it considering all the upsides I've felt since.

I'm getting a chin strap, but until then is there anything I can do?
A person with sleep apnea tends to breathe through their mouth because they are not getting enough air through their nose. Now, you are getting enough air through your nose. Now, for you, mouth breathing is an old habit that will gradually go away. Try out the chin strap to train yourself back to nose breathing. After a little time, you may not need it at all. Good Luck!
You can adjust your humidifier upward to help alleviate some of that dry mouth, RChatty. Also some Biotene will help a little w/the dry mouth as well.

Dry mouth isn't just an uncomfortable feeling, it contributes to poor dental hygiene and teeth and gum problems.
Thanks a ton! I thought I was doomed to tying my mouth shut every night. I've been using an elastic bandage because I don't have a chin strap yet. It's worked, but I don't like it.
