Henning replied to Henning's discussion Blood pressure medication and breathing. It has been two weeks since I received my CPAP machine . I have been able to keep the mask on through the night since day one. The first week I found myself waking up periodically but now have been able to sleep for 6 hrs at a stretch. The only difficulty I am having is adjusting the mask before I fall asleep . I am getting a blister on the bridge of my nose. I tried a liner last night but was having difficulty with it. Any suggestions? Thanks, Diane

Maybe the mask is too small and need to go to a bigger face mask, have you asked your sleep tech or dr.
Diane C Kenney said:I am using the Resmed quattro full face mask. The sleep tech recommended the small mask after my sleep study.
Mary Z said:You are doing well. Your profile doesn't say what kind of mask you are using, but there are several different liners available. You can also put a bandaid on the site or moleskin on the mask whre it's rubbing. Be careful, don't let that sore get out of hand.

Permalink Reply by Diane C Kenney on January 27, 2012 at 3:54pm Thank you everyone for your fine advice. I visited with my sleep tech this morning. He refitted my mask and believes that the mask size is fine but that I may be sensitive to the silicone. I may have to switch to a non silicone lined mask. I am thankful though;it could be worse.
Permalink Reply by Diane C Kenney on February 1, 2012 at 11:56am Hi All: it seems that I am going to be fitted with nasal pillows to see if that is a better fit for me. It seems that the silicone is irritating my skin. Hope this works.
Permalink Reply by K. S. on February 2, 2012 at 1:24pm Congratulations that you're committed to sleeping with CPAP. We always have to keep our focus on the big picture. Just today, another study of those of us with sleep apnea having silent strokes.
Most of us have to try multiple masks to get one that fits. I get a reddened area on my nose bridge from the ResMed nasal maskMirage FX. It's lessened if I keep the top strap looser. But what I am finding after being a CPAPer only 5 months, is that I have to switch off between the ResMed Swift FX pillows once my nostrils get tender to the nasal mask. Since the lanolin works on the nostrils, I've thought of using this on the nose bridge. Another thought is Pad-a-Check website for a customed bridge pad. The woman who makes the pads is another CPAPer!
Since you're within your first month, I would pursue an alternative mask if you have a DME/insurance coverage.
Permalink Reply by Diane C Kenney on February 2, 2012 at 3:18pm Thanks, I am very committed to my therapy. I was waking up with a numbing in my face, headaches, and sore throat. I was really frightened by the numbing sensation in my face. All these symptoms have disappeared since I started therapy. I was told by my endocrinologist that my testing positive for pre-metabolic syndrome was a result of sleep apnea. I have been treated for hypertension for the last 3 years. I finally feel that I am on the road to addressing the underlying cause of my illnesses. Diane.
Permalink Reply by ZolliStar on February 2, 2012 at 5:25pm I found the nasal pillows to work really well for me. Still, I sometimes go back to my nasal mask. There are things I like about it.
I just got a DreamWeaver cloth mask. I'll report after I've used it for a week or so since it might be an answer/solution for some.
