A friend who has end-stage lung disease will have a double-lung transplant. He has severe OSA and uses BiPAP. After the surgery he will be on a ventilator for some days.

I am wondering if he should have a tracheotomy done at the time of the lung transplant to use permanently when sleeping? It seems like having to use the BiPAP during the continuing recovery period might be very difficult.

Wow Banyon that is tough. If I were in your shoes I would urge my friend to explore all options including the trach.

Good luck to both of you.

Bump.
