I am wondering what is a normal range of leg movements while sleeping.  I had a sleep study done in July of 09 and it came back with 224 leg movements with 41 arousals from them.  My DME didn't say anything about them but the tech said that number was high.  I had a new sleep study done in March of this year and the numbers came back similar.  This time my DME said she could put me on meds for restless leg syndrom but she left it up to me.  I am hesitant to be on more meds.    I seldom have RLS symptoms when awake.  I also have moderate apnea with a AHI of 16.8.  I still take a nap every day , if I can squeeze one in.  I guess I'm wondering if I would have more energy if I went on the meds or do I have unrealistic expectations of my cpap.

How long have you been on PAP therapy? Have you been Dx with both RLS and PLMD?
I have had my cpap machine since 8/09 but only using religiously for 5 or 6 months.  I finally seem to have all of my nasal congestion problems taken care of.  My DME said RLS not PLMD.
If you think the RLS is interfering with your sleep the meds might be worth a try.  I understand about not wanting to add another med.  RLS is typically only seen when you go to bed, or during sleeping.  For some people it causes arousals or poor sleep and fatigue the next day.
RLS is a wake disorder that keeps you from falling asleep. If your leg movements are arousal related then it would be PLMD. It sounds like we are missing something Shannon.
I sometimes have extreme RLS other nights not so bad, but it is always there.   i was reading about an herbal cure for this and it was suggested that if you take magnesium/zinc tablet about an hour before bed, it would help.   As I usually take magnesium each morning, I switched it to an hour before bedtime.   That was a week ago, and I have not had RLS since.  I will keep doing this, and hopefully it is not all inmy head.
I am glad that something is working for you. Very often RLSD/PLMD are symptoms of vatamin or mineral deficeincies. Since this is working for you I suggest talking to you doc about testing you levels.

I do have RLS but not often enough to warrent meds.  Maybe once a month does it interfer with my ability to fall asleep.  The leg movements on my sleep study were when I was asleep not awake.  So I guess it is PLMD.

I'm glad that you found something that works for you.  I do take a multi-vitiamin every night.  Keep me posted on if it keeps working.  I could be low in iron because it is rare for me to eat red meat.
