My best friend of nearly 30 years had a sleep study done this week--FINALLY--I've been talking to her about getting one for months 'cause she has all the classic symptoms and risk factors of OSA.
She, like many people, has been fiercely resistant to asking for one. I must admit I've ridden her like a new pony because she IS my best friend and I've been worried about her.
I'm not exactly sure what finally clicked in her head, but she suddenly made an appointment, had the sleep study, and was diagnosed and prescribed CPAP treatment. She hasn't yet gotten her machine, but she told me she slept nearly all night in the lab, waking only when they came in to make their adjustments. Her comment to me was, "I really slept well. I felt GOOD when I woke up! I never feel good, no matter how long I sleep." She also reported a couple of days later, a significant decrease in her chronic leg pain.
(Amazing what a good supply of O2 will do for a person!! .....
Need I say more? Don't give up encouraging your friends and/or loved ones from seeking treatment if it's clear to you that they may have apnea. Hopefully, at some point, they'll hear you. It's hard--people really don't want to hear it. But I'm so glad I stuck with it in this instance.....
