Fellow SleepGuide Members,

As you no doubt have noticed, we've made some cosmetic changes to the site over the past couple of days.  I sincerely want to know what you think, positive and negative.  Please respond to this thread with any feedback you're willing to share.

Regards,
Mike

It would help to have the text in black instead of dark grey in the posts. It is pretty dark when I type my message in the Reply box but then when it is posted its grey like all the others posts in the thread.

What is the reason for the design, Mike??? The heading certainly is no where near as attractive. Once we get down to the Discussion header its attractive enough. Just need the text in black instead of dark grey.

It's not balanced with the larger discussion area on the right. There's an old artist's rule that the weight is more comfortable to the viewer on the left of any composition. It has something to do with most people being right-handed.  The left column is way too wide for what you need, beside being better on the right.
Judy -- i just made the replies/ comments in a thread black instead of dark grey. the reason for the redesign was to give the site a more clean, professional look.  the new design also accommodates more ad space, which can help pay for the site's upkeep. i don't think the other design was bad.  I am just always wanting to try to improve on things.  sometimes it gets me into trouble . . .

Ahh, much better, Mike. Thank you!

The new header is so much "harsher" than the original, it doesn't "feel" as friendly, inviting and comfortable. Maybe just redo that top "block" or header. The rest I think we can adjust to the change fairly easily.

I'm afraid I don't like it either!

Okay,  I am far sighted -- don't need glasses at all for distance vision.  In fact I wear bifocals (progressive lenses) and the tops do not have any prescription in them at all.  My near vision is not horrible, but do need my glasses to read -- the font size appears to be too small.

I am still having trouble reading the discussions.

I am viewing the new format on an IPad,so I can enlarge the print easily and zoom in on different areas of the pages. Really no problem for me,but I still have to say I don't like the really light print when we type a reply. I think the rest is quite attractive.

You know Mike I have seen so many web sites change and in the process it always has seemed to be a change for the worse.  Most changes made navigating  around the site difficult.

Your changes have been great.  I like the orderly style of the home page and how the topics are displayed.

Now, the biggest change that I like is how the background stays fixed while scrolling.  Your web designer deserves a lot of credit for bringing some freshness to web viewing.

I still don't like your new design, and I want to point out an example of another website which was FINE, and didn't need fixing, but they gave us a choice, can you find the "see anything different"?

it gives you the choice of "CLASSIC VIEW" so they won't lose people, for anyone wanting the weather, btw, wunderground is the best (use zip code).

Wish you offered classic. It's plain as day, wunderground's original design IS SUPERIOR.

it's as likely as not we will revert to some variation on the previous "classic" design.
Sorry your new design didn't please everyone.
Sorry I'm so slow to check in. When I first logged on and saw the big change, I was a bit uncomfortable, not sure I liked it. As I took a few minutes to look at it and figure out where things were, and contemplate why you might be doing it, I became a little more comfortable. I realized this probably made advertisements work better and being left handed, I kind of liked the side switch of the "latest activity list. I liked when you added the spot of green highlight to the tabs - makes it stand out and the accent is cheerful. It took me a few minutes to realize that the area that appeared gray was actually transparent overlay of the background. I wasn't as concerned about the font size as my system has a little button I can click to change that to my preference for whatever I am looking at, but not everyone may be able to do that. The more I play with it, the more I like it. The background is lovely, and the overlapping moon is a nice touch. I wonder how it would look to put the top banner ad in some sort of visual border, round the corners or somehow put more space between it and the SG logo, or maybe make it translucent too, so the "Sleep Guide" would be a little more dominant. If it is difficult, I can live with it as is. Compared to other sites I visit often, is a "clean" and welcoming design. If I think of anything else, I'll post it later.

It's funny how the brain relies on patterns, and becomes disoriented when those patterns are changed. So, everyone - just remember, this kind of change is what helps your brain grow some new connections between brain cells. That's a good thing!
