For the most part many of use one of the two "big" company machines.  EIther Resmed or Respironics.  Resmeds new machines are the S9 and Respironics are the Series 60 (just coming out).  Both record data, can be set to a range of pressures, and are very effective.  Each machine has plusses and negatives and it is an individual matter.

There are smaller companies that make good apaps -- but the software isn't as easy to come by and their data capabilities differ slightly.  But these machines typically are cheaper if buying out of pocket.  I have heard that the Intellipap (the apap) is a decent machine, although I don't have any experience with it.

I have used an M series Respironics apap and a ResMed Autoset II.  My preference was the Resmed machine.  It seemed better built and provided better therapy, in my opinion.

Good luck and hopefully others will chime in with their favorite machines.

thanks so much, sleepycarol, this was helpful.  eric.

Hi Eric, Masks are many ...the one for you is what ever you tolerate best. If you mouth breathe a full face works or a nasal pillow with a chin strap might work .Your DME can swap out for a Best fit mask for the first 30 days,so try and if you are not ok try again till you get something that works .It is a process stick with it .Good Sleep,Chris

I have used ResMed and Respironics- every mode..  I currently have a Respironics ASV.  I have the best success with the ASV because of medicines I take that seem to disrupt my sleep architecture and my AHI stays high.  I would say they all have been good machines and success depends on the right mode- CPAP, Bilevel, AUTO, or ASV and 100% compliance. Plus good quality sleep- if you don't sleep well you will not get the full benefits from therapy. I started with the Quattro FFM which worked pretty well.  Had trouble keeping leaks under control.  I developed a sore on the bridge of my nose that became very bad (still have a scar and can't use a mask that rests there).  I currently use the Respironics FitLife Total Face Mask with good results.

I believe the Resmed algorithm to be better. Just sayin.
