When I went to my sleep doctor he said I must have a perforated eardrum because I asked him about an air sound in my ear. It is in the left ear a lot and the right ear once and a while. I went to an ear, nose and throat doctor like my sleep doctor suggested and my ears are fine. The ENT doctor gave me flonase to see if that might help.

If I am awake when it happens I hear a pop and a loud air sound starts.  I have noticed that if I push gently on my neck under my ear the air sound stops. If I am asleep it wakes me up which is not helping at all.

Has anyone else heard of this and if so do you know of anything I can do to keep it from happening?

Follow up on noise in ears.  I still use Flonase  every other day and I use a saline spray.
I went back to my sleep doctor and he lowered my cpap pressure to 10. This has almost stopped the air in my ears. In between visits I noticed that when the noise starts if I press on the side of my neck that stops the air in my ear. My sleep doctor said this must have something to do with my Eustachian tubes, and he thought lowering the pressure setting would help.
Hi Mike,  Just out of curiosity have you tried chewing gum? Might move those eustation tubes .....get um to open up and stop giving you greef. unless they are all scarred closed. Good Sleep,Chris

This is where MY CPAP nightmare began. Switched to APAP. Set my Minimum to a nice low 5, my high at 12. NO help. Also went the Flonase and saline route. Got earaches that became worse & worse. I am now awaiting getting tubes put into BOTH eardrums to allow my Eustachian tubes to equalize. But since I STOPPED even my APAP over 2 months ago & the earaches continued, I am waiting a few more months to do the minor procedure. I have no idea what to do...Sorry that in my case I have no better news for you. Everyone is different so best of luck!

TIme flies and I have just changed doctors and had another sleep study. I had been using pillows and the pressure was set at 9.2, too low but what I could stand. Now the new doctor wants me to try a mask and pressure at 12. I did not have a problem with my ears in the study, but as soon as I tried the new setup at home my Eustachian tube popped and air was rushing through one of them and waking me up.  I turned the pressure down to 11 and did not have the problem last night. I am so tired and tired of CPAP.

How did your problems turn out Mike C. and Chris H?  If you are better and I hope you are. What did you do to help the problem?

I really like the new doctor and the techs are so much more helpful and really know what they are doing. I had never had a mask fitted to my face with air blowing in it before. They tried out many at the sleep study and at the follow up. Before I went to a practice that gave me the stuff and sent me on my way, or mailed it to me.

That's great news about the good doc, but too bad about raising the pressure.  Can you go up on the pressure in small increments?
