I have only been using my CPAP for about 3 weeks. I am only able to use it anywhere from 2-4 hours a night; I am still adjusting to the face mask. My machine has a heated humidifier and I had it set between 2 and 3. The air was quite cold but felt like outdoor fresh air. My nose did get cold but the air felt nice. I hadn't changed the setting but for the past couple of nights the air became warm and humid. It now feels heavy and hard to breathe. I tried to lower the humidity level and it did not change the temperature. I do need the humidity because my lips dry out ( I am a nose breather, but when I took off the humidifier my lips dried right out).

I would really like to get the cool moist air back. Does anyone have suggestions?

I know what you mean about the humidity. They used the heated humidifier the first night of my testing. I felt like I was suffocating. Finally they turned off the heat and it was fine.

What kind of mask do you wear? I can't feel the air at all with my mask. I wish I could. It would feel better, as it is I often feel like there isn't enough air.

But in answer to your question, is it possible to turn off the heat entirely?
Hi,
Try to fix one thing at a time. You are right, heated air is heavier. That is because warm air carries more water in the air you are breathing. If your lips are dry, you are probably mouth breathing. That needs to be addressed. Call yout homecare company and discribe what is happening. They should be able to assess your mask fit (while lying down) to make sure your fit and adjustments are correct.

Hopefully, that helps. You can turn the humidifier off until you get the mask adjusted. Then you can work with the heated vs. cool. that's my suggestion anyway!
Good Luck.
You can use even the integrated, heated humidifiers, in passover mode. i.e. turn the humidifier totally off and just let the air blow over the unheated water. Or you can turn your humidifier's setting down to 1.

The needed change in humidifier setting is due to the temperature in the bedroom. Warmer outside, less need for the furnace to run, less dry interior of the house.
It sounds to me like your humidifier is not working properly. The air will feel cold when you first turn the machine on, and should get warmer as the humidifier heats up. It sounds like the first night your humidifier just did not heat up at all.

If your lips are dry, you might be breathing through your mouth at times.
Good afternoon,

Which machine to you have? If you desire the cool passover humidifcation you can turn off the heat but continue to add water as needed. If it stays the same no matter which adjustment you use there may be a problem, it is hard to determine with just one night of adjustments. Does your tubing get water in it?? You can also determine by the amount of wated in the chamber the next morning. Just some ideas. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!! It would be ideal if you could use the CPAP 6-7 hours. Thanks Brad
