Mary Z replied to ZolliStar's discussion Non-invasion approach that can relieve mild sleep apnea
"Hi ZolliStar, I've heard before that speech therapy, or singing lessons can help sleep apnea.  The problem at that time was there was no way to determine which exercises help.  Getting research done, rather than anecdotal would be…"

Non-invasion approach that can relieve mild sleep apnea

Some people report that singing -- singing! -- really helps their sleep apnea. Dr. Stephen Park said that myology (which are exercises to strengthen muscles around the inside of one's mouth area) helps some. I think singing would be better.  If you read all the FAQs on this (click below), I think you'll agree that it makes sense for some. Maybe you.http://www.singingforsnorers.com/index.htmSee More

Resmed S8 AutoSet II - No Longer Collecting Data??

Hi All,First off, my apologies for not checking in for a long time.I've been using my Resmed S8 AutoSet II for almost 3 years! I feel great, have lost almost 30 lbs, am no longer sleepy during the day, sleep through the night, and have my short-term memory back.Yay!I've told my doctors that I'm the "poster child" for Sleep Apnea and CPAPs! It's been, and continues to be, such an amazing experience that I want everyone to know!Everything has been going well in CPAP-land, but in the last few…See More

AHI finally under five.

I have been on CPAP since March 2008 and had a good AHI when I started therapy (under 5).Then my AHI started getting worse- for a while it stayed in the 20's, then we got it to the high teens.  Nothing we did would help.  My doctor said it was due to the meds I take.  For a couple of years I just tolerated the high AHI.  I did another sleep study and changed to an ASV machine.  For two years I still had a AHI around 11-13.  Then all of a sudden - a month ago I noticed my AHI was running five or…See More

"I rarely use the humidifier. I think it's less necessary during the summer when there is humidity.   I also switch between my mouth device and the APAP.  I like each for different reasons. Not sure with which I sleep better, though.…"

I am so thrilled with the results from my first check up since I got the Apap!  I have gone from quitting breathing over 75 times per hour to 0.9 or, why not just say 1?  What is the difference?  I did get a different mask because the first one was poofing in my eyes when I would roll over.  I got the ResMed Mirage Micro.  I think it is really gonna help since it has that adjustment for the height of the bridge of my nose.  I swear I'm kin to Barbara Streisand somehow.  Ugh!

How do you feel in the morning now ? Are you able to get through an entire day without a nap ??
I am new to this group, newly diagnosed with OSA. I would like to think there IS hope and that a _pap machine will truly help me. My first doctor said the CPAP overnight was a failure so I am going for a second opinion. How many doctors did you see before you got your machine ?

Hooray for you Allison, that is awesome news !! :)

Well, I used to have a serious problem getting up. I was fallng asleep driving down the interstate on the way to work. Was drinking tons of energy drinks/coffee/cokes just to get through the day only to fall asleep driving back home down the interstate. It's a wonder I didn't get killed or at least into a wreck. I have NO PROBLEMS like this any more. I am even getting some of my memory back. My memory has gone absolutely to crap over the last several years and I had no idea why. I only saw one doctor. If it is possible to flunk a sleep study though I did it. They had to put the mask on me the first night so I didn't have to go back for another one. I really feel like a new person. I REFUSE to sleep without the machine now because I know how bad my OSA was effecting me now. There is hope!!! I PROMISE!!!

My problem is just the opposite of yours. I can bolt out of bed on the first alarm at 5am and go off to work, BUT, by 11am I am complete toast. I can't concentrate, my mind is fuzzy, I bump into things, can't put a whole sentence together without thinking about it first, the list is endless. I drive home like a zombie and it doesn't help when I hit all the red lights, I close my eyes any chance I get. I nap 2-3 times a day on my days off and some days am only awake for a few hours. Tonight is a rarity, it is 9:45p and I am wide awake. Go figure !
My report states that I did fairly poorly at all pressure settings. I am so afraid to go to sleep but am so exhausted it just happens.
