"Ginny, I so agree with your DME frustration. I still haven't gotten billing for my original Wisp. I've since gotten one cushion & am calling this next week about another new one & frame. I too don't like not having extra…"

"Not a problem, Z. It's important to know and can take a minute to wrap your head around. I know it did for me. Very few sleep disorders fall into a "breathing disorder" catagory.   "

"Dear Mary, Thanks for the clarification that good sleep and apnea are probably two different things. I'm still grateful to Terry Vella for pointing out that sleep apnea is a breathing disorder, not a sleep disorder. That opened my eyes and now…"

"Dx is diagnosis and CSA is central apnea. As to whether people sleep better with an ASV, well if you slept well before  ASV I'd imagine you would continue to sleep well.  I slept well on all modes, but found none that worked for me…"

"Apnea is not a breathing disorder. It actually has very little to do with pulmonary function short of causing O2 desaturations. Sleep apnea is a neuromuscular sleep disorder. Central sleep a[nea is a breathing disorder."

"May I ask two dumb-dumb questions?  What do "Dx" and "CSA" mean? And here is a not-so-dumb-dumb question (I hope!): From your experience, do people sleep better using an ASV machine?  I look forward to your answer. "

RockRpsgt replied to ZolliStar's discussion What's the Right Machine?
"You will most likely not be able to get insurance approval for an ASV without a Dx of CSA. I think that saying that an ASV breathes with you is false. ASV does however provide a better breath support and algorithm for auto use. The newer ASV units…"

I am so thrilled with the results from my first check up since I got the Apap!  I have gone from quitting breathing over 75 times per hour to 0.9 or, why not just say 1?  What is the difference?  I did get a different mask because the first one was poofing in my eyes when I would roll over.  I got the ResMed Mirage Micro.  I think it is really gonna help since it has that adjustment for the height of the bridge of my nose.  I swear I'm kin to Barbara Streisand somehow.  Ugh!

How do you feel in the morning now ? Are you able to get through an entire day without a nap ??
I am new to this group, newly diagnosed with OSA. I would like to think there IS hope and that a _pap machine will truly help me. My first doctor said the CPAP overnight was a failure so I am going for a second opinion. How many doctors did you see before you got your machine ?

Hooray for you Allison, that is awesome news !! :)

Well, I used to have a serious problem getting up. I was fallng asleep driving down the interstate on the way to work. Was drinking tons of energy drinks/coffee/cokes just to get through the day only to fall asleep driving back home down the interstate. It's a wonder I didn't get killed or at least into a wreck. I have NO PROBLEMS like this any more. I am even getting some of my memory back. My memory has gone absolutely to crap over the last several years and I had no idea why. I only saw one doctor. If it is possible to flunk a sleep study though I did it. They had to put the mask on me the first night so I didn't have to go back for another one. I really feel like a new person. I REFUSE to sleep without the machine now because I know how bad my OSA was effecting me now. There is hope!!! I PROMISE!!!

My problem is just the opposite of yours. I can bolt out of bed on the first alarm at 5am and go off to work, BUT, by 11am I am complete toast. I can't concentrate, my mind is fuzzy, I bump into things, can't put a whole sentence together without thinking about it first, the list is endless. I drive home like a zombie and it doesn't help when I hit all the red lights, I close my eyes any chance I get. I nap 2-3 times a day on my days off and some days am only awake for a few hours. Tonight is a rarity, it is 9:45p and I am wide awake. Go figure !
My report states that I did fairly poorly at all pressure settings. I am so afraid to go to sleep but am so exhausted it just happens.

Keep working the equipment, Allison, give it 3 months. 2 steps forward, 1 back is ok. Keep us informed.
