In recent months, I have developed extreme dry mouth as a result of the CPAP. I am a mouth breather when using CPAP.

Recently, I saw an advertisement for the symptoms of dry mouth, but as usual, when I need the information to have a discussion with both my primary care physician and my dentist I haven't seen the ad.

Has anyone else seen the ad and can anyone remember the info in the ad?

Thanks in advance,

Do you have a leaky gut

How would you know

A telltale sign for leaky gut is

Athletes foot

I wish to ask do you have or suffer from it

The reason I ask is maybe this is a common denominator

Just text yes or text no

And if you are the first to text also keep a tally

Example

38 yes 0 no

Your input would alter the tally

39 yes 0 no

So now I will input first

1 yes. 0 no

It's ironic that before I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in 2000, I had no problem sleeping 8-9 hours a night. If I did wake up during the night, I had no problem falling right back to sleep, and I wasn't tired during the day.

From the first night I brought home the CPAP I haven't had one decent night's sleep. Not one. I don't have any problem falling asleep, but I can't stay asleep. At first I was waking up after 4-5 hours and couldn't get back to sleep for a couple of hours. Now…

From the first night I brought home the CPAP I haven't had one decent night's sleep. Not one. I don't have any problem falling asleep, but I can't stay asleep. At first I was waking up after 4-5 hours and couldn't get back to sleep for a couple of hours. Now it's more like 2-3 hours.

Last night was a perfect example. I went to sleep around 11:30. Woke up at maybe 2:30 (it was 3:14 when I finally checked the clock). Between 3:14 and 5:30 I dozed off a couple of times for maybe 30-40 minutes, then woke up again. I gave up at 5:30 and got out of bed.

My numbers are good. AHI is usually less than 3 and AI is usually 0.

I've seen sleep doctors, had more sleep tests done, and even tried therapy to no avail. I usually get the standard lecture about sleep hygiene. It's funny that my sleep hygiene must have been fine before the mask.

So the bottom line is my life changed for the worse when I got the mask. I don't sleep. I'm tired during the day. I don't feel like I'm the same person. Basically CPAP has had the exact opposite effect that it should have.

Anyone else have this problem? I would be interested to hear how you deal with it.

I've been hearing advertising for this product over the past few days. It's sold as something to help snoring, but as I look at the information it seems to me that it would work just as well as my mandibular advancement device (MAD).

In other words, this could help some of us with sleep apnea.

Read about it here.

Anybody have any thoughts about this?

a humidifier can be used with colloidal silver

silver colloidal is antimicrobial and you could just top up your humidifier without cleaning and at the same time treat your body

A recently published study may have found a connection between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and osteoporosis, marking yet another health condition potentially linked to sleep apnea.

A great deal of sleep apnea research focuses on the connection between OSA and cardiovascular and diabetes-related conditions. This osteoporosis study, however, set out to see it there was a connection between sleep apnea and the skeletal system. (Osteoporosis is a health condition that causes bones to decrease in mass and i.e., become weaker, leading to an increased risk of breaks and fractures.)

Details of the sleep apnea/osteoporosis study

The sleep apnea/osteoporosis study, published in the pages of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism in April, concluded that “people diagnosed with OSA are at increased risk for subsequent osteoporosis.”1

The study tracked 1,377 patients with sleep apnea against more than 20,000 who didn’t have OSA, looking specifically for the development of osteoporosis, and taking all samples randomly from Taiwan’s National Health Insurance database.

At the end of a six-year period, the findings showed that the OSA patients were at “2.74 times the risk of osteoporosis than patients without OSA” after adjusting for gender, age, geographical location and the presence of other health conditions like diabetes, hypertension, stroke and obesity.

The study also found that patients who were older and female “had a higher risk for osteoporosis than their younger and male counterparts.”

The sleep apnea/osteoporosis study: What’s it mean?

In a news release announcing the study, the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism authors were careful to point out that the study only “noted an association between sleep apnea and osteoporosis” and “does not prove that one causes the other.”

However, Dr. Kai-Jen Tien of Taiwan’s Chi Mei Medical Center, a co-author of the study, still warned about the connection suggested by the sleep apnea/osteoporosis study results.

“When sleep apnea periodically deprives the body of oxygen, it can weaken bones and raise the risk of osteoporosis,” said Dr. Tien in the news release. “The progressive condition can lead to bone fractures, increased medical costs, reduced quality of life and even death.”

“As more and more people are diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea worldwide, both patients and health care providers need to be aware of the heightened risk of developing other conditions,” Dr. Tien added. “We need to pay more attention to the relationship between sleep apnea and bone health so we can identify strategies to prevent osteoporosis.”
